ISOPlexis – (Madeira, Portugal).

The Isoplexis Germplasm Bank is a research unit of the University of Madeira with a current staff of 14. It contributes to the conservation and use of Madeira biological resources. It is a member of the FAO Bank Network since 2001, and of the Germobanco Agrícola da Macaronesia since 2003. Its germplasm collections are managed according to the guidelines and protocols established by Bioversity International, regarding the handling, documentation, sanitation, characterization and maintenance of accessions. The core collection used for breeding follows the standards of the National Register and the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants.

- This partner has expertise and skills in germplasm conservation and characterization. It manages a collection of more than 2 000 accessions of cultivated plants, crop wild relatives or wild plants. It has already successfully characterized morphologically wheat, maize and bean collections, and has a record in the biochemical and nutritional characterization of bean, maize and wheat accessions.

- Facilities include biochemical, molecular and agro-morphological characterization laboratories, germplasm cold storage chambers, growth chambers and experimental fields.
